Ian Fleming- Style
Ian Fleming is the creator of the famous secret-service agent James Bond. He wrote severalbooks about James Bond which contain colorful locations, beautiful women, and hair-raising adventures. Two of these novels are Moonraker and Thunderball. In these novels, three of Ian Fleming’s elements of style are portrayed. The three elements of his style are detailed characterization, the reoccurring theme of good overcoming evil, and his unique taste for detailed descriptions of events or people in his diction. This blend of characterization, theme, and vivid details allows Fleming to completely embrace the reader in the world of James Bond. In both Moonraker and Thunderball, Ian wants his characters to be real people in the reader’s mind. The reader should be able to visualize the characters from head to toe in his mind as Fleming uses extensive details in describing them. Fleming draws a perfect picture everytime for the reader as in this excerpt from Moonraker in which he describes Bond’s commanding M looked like any member of any of the clubs on St. James’s Street. Dark grey suit, stiff white collar, the favourite dark blue bow-tie with spots, rather loosely tied, the thing black
his novels come from this framework and begin with the villain’s plot to destroy lives or property of the rimless eyeglasses that M seemed only to use to read menus, the keen sailor’s relationship with a girl as this passage illustrates: of green, the tinkle of glasses as the waiters moved amongst the tables, the hum of talk, With each and every detail Ian paints a vivid picture for the reader that is unforgettable just like
