Responsible for the Holocaust
Asking who is responsible for the holocaust is like asking who created technology or who thought up religion. It is an impossible question to answer without going in depth and looking at all sides of the event from its beginning to its end. There are four main groups of people that are responsible for the war. First there are the small things that didn’t help put at stop or that helped led up to the holocaust: Organized groups of people like the SA and the SS; the leaders of the third reich like Goebbels, Goering, Himmler, and of course Hitler; and other countries that overtly complied or tactfully allowed Hitler to strive for his goal of world domination. Alfred Rosenberg, or Houston Chamberlain ,writers of anti Semitic literature, aided to the war in conscious of unconscious ways. Everyone that fought against the Weimar republic and didn’t make it work made it possible for Hitler to take power. Hindenberg, though he died before the war started, shares some of the blame because he put Hitler in the perfect position to take over and assume all power. He also singed the Enabling act that allowed the freedoms of the people to be suppressed. The judge that sentenced Hitler after the Beer hall Putch is to blame had
Last but not in any way least is the fourth main Nazi man who holds more responsibility for the holocaust than any other: Hitler. So much can be said about how Hitler orchestrated the killing of millions of people there is no time to get into it all. To simplify it Hitler made Germany into a dictatorship. He took control and then convinced the German people that only true loyalty to him was their salvation from their bad times. He hated the Jews and drew up many restrictions on their lives. He convinced the Germans to fight other nations and he led the charge of the takeover for entire countries. He allowed people like Goebbels and Himmler to come to power and not only did he allow it he promoted it. He created the atmosphere in Germany that gave way to the holocaust. I don’t know if he ever physically killed anyone but every single death during WW II and the holocaust can be pinned to his head. Obviously the organizations didn’t run themselves. I will focus on four individuals at the head of this movement though there were many more involved specifically all of those that were inedited at the Nuremburg trials. Hermann Goering was one of these people. He was the commander of the SA and his promotion of violence helped create the group into thugs. He was a man that craved power and took it whenever he could. He didn’t really hate the Jews but saw in them a perfect way to line his own pockets. It was he who established the first concentration camp, and he was the first to voice the idea of total separation of the Jews into ghettos. Most significantly, he decided it was time to clear the ghettos for deportation into concentration camps. As long as he was making money he didn’t care who it hurt. He was next in line to Hitler and there should be no doubt that he shares a large part of the blame. At the Nuremburg trials he was sentenced to death but took a cyanide pill to escape the noose. Another group that must shoulder some blame are the soldiers of the German military. In fighting other countries the army allowed Hitler to stay in power and gave him time to commit the terrible atrocities. The Germans citizen must also be blamed also. Hitler didn’t take power he was given it by the German people. It took lots of people to build the concentration camps and run them. The cry of ignorance is one that’s hard to believe. Railroads were re routed and bankers started accepting gold teeth as currency a new occurance that should have aroused some suspicion. The majority of Germans chose to not know about what was going on, and in that choice of acquiescence they helped Hitler kill the Jews. The SA, and SS played an obvious part in the holocaust. The SA was
