Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756 in Salzburg, Austria toLeopold Mozart (1719-1787) and Anna Maria Pertl. Being the seventh and last child of his parents, only he and their fourth child, Maria Anna, survived. Mozart was actually christened as "Joannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus," but later adopted the Latin term for Theophilus, "Amadeus," as his name of choice. He was named after St. John Chrysostom (whose feast day was on January 27), his maternal grandfather Wolfgangus, and Joannes Theophilus Pergmayr, his godfather. During his childhood, Mozart would become an extraordinary musician, displaying his talents through extended travels all around Europe. This would pave the way toward making him one of the greatest Mozart's father, Leopold, was a successful composer and violinist, serving as assistant concert master at the Salzburg Court.
