In most states you must be sixteen years old to acquire a drivers license.
When you stop to think about cars, you may realize that you are actually driving a loaded weapon that is just waiting for a target. Its amazing to think that once you get a valid drivers license you are free to drive when you want, where you want and for as long as you want. To me that is a very scary thought. Some say that the younger drivers, who are between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five, are they worst drivers. That’s not always the case. I have observed, in my years of driving, drivers of many ages. I believe that there are bad drivers of all ages.
I remember when my sister was sixteen and got her license to drive. She was so happy. We went out for a cruise around town and were stopping to get gas when she sideswiped the gasoline pump. To us it was amusing. We didn’t stop to think that the consequences could have been dire. Many younger drivers are thinking the same ways. I fall into the class of younger drivers and I must admit that I am one of the worst drivers.
Of course when my children are in the car I take extra care. But if I am alone and have somewhere to go, I put the petal to the metal. I
Don’t get me wrong; my dad is a great guy. But a great driver, he is not. He takes turns on two wheels. He normally drives about 20 miles per hour above the speed limit. My dad has a big truck and when you are riding in it with him it just enhances the terrifying experience. Of course not all middle-aged drivers are poor drivers, as not all younger drivers are poor drivers. Some middle-aged drivers are excellent drivers. Or so they think they are. My pet peeve is when someone stops instead of yielding. I have noticed that this seems to be the tactic for middle-aged drivers. Just last week as I was driving home from school a lady who I thought to be in her forties was in front of me. She pulls up to the yield sign and stops. I wait patiently for a millisecond. Then I feel my blood begin to boil. She waited until all of the cars in the farthest lane were passed and absolutely nothing was coming and then proceeded to stay in the same lane and get off at the next exit. I still do not understand what she was thinking. If my mother had heard the words that came out of my mouth that day, she would have washed my mouth out with soap. Some say that is safe driving. In my opinion it i
