Asleep= Banana Yoshimoto

            In the first story Night and Night's Travelers of the novel Asleep, American Sarah and Japanese Yoshihiro form an unforgettable relationship. This relationship held strong even though Sarah eventually had to return to America. This can be very difficult, to keep a relationship going when the two people involved live in different continents. However, if both parties are determined it can be done.
             This summer I met the most amazing guy of my life. I have only known him for a little less than three months and I know that I love him with all my heart. Now I do not mean in the romantic way. I mean as a best friend. This boy is everything I have ever looked for in a friend. He is kind and sweet. He is caring and humble. He is so funny and great to be around. We clicked instantly and our relationship was off to an amazing start. .
             His name is Adam and he is from Scotland. Yes, that is a long way away from here, but I know that we will stay in touch. I do not know if I could handle it if we did not. I cannot even describe how amazing this boy is. Everyone at camp loved him, but I knew that we had a special relationship. We had our own inside jokes. It was funny one time one of my campers at camp asked me if Adam was my brother. I laughed because I feel as if he is. I feel like I have known Adam for my entire life. He always knows what to say and what I need.
             I went through a lot of hard things this summer, but Adam was there for me with all his heart and soul. I knew he cared about me, which is very important to me, and I know that he knew that I cared about him. .
             The day I had to say goodbye to Adam was the worst day ever. I had to wake up really early to wish him farewell before he left for the airport. I made him a bracelet and he gave me the nicest note ever. I sobbed the entire way home after he left. .
             Friends like these are important to make and keep. You must hold on to them and never let them go for they only come along once in a while.
