Feeling of Being Loved in Fried Green Tomatoes

The novel “The Fried Green Tomatoes” written by Fannie Flag is virtually flawless in illustrating the true meaning of friendship. In the novel, Idgie and Ruth are described to have a totally different personality from each other. Idgie is a rowdy tomboyish girl, stubborn, brave and courageous. Ruth is Idgie’s reverse; she is feminine, calm and has every nice thing that a nice woman would have. To me, the friendship between Idgie and Ruth is not as simple as it seems. We can see in the novel that Evelyn believes that Ninny’s story is the right solution to all her problem. The story gave her courage, self-esteem, rigidity and enthusiasm to stay alive and faces all her problem. She began to change gradually, “But something else had happened here that she could never have dreamed of. She had become a much sought-after, popular person!” (374)

Sometimes, I felt like I’m living in my own world; a world that is filled with sorrow and loneliness. I don’t have someone to share my burden with or perhaps it is me who does not want to share it with anyone else. I always think that I can handle everything by myself. However, such persistent lifestyle only runs in me for about eight months. One day, if I can’t take these sufferings anymore, I will just commit suicide to end it.
