Forms of mass communication have been used both to inform and to influence the American public. There have been very specific forms that are still used to day to keep the public informed about how their society is run. Television, newspapers and political cartoons are forms that have been used to communicate to the American public, face and some opinions about certain aspects of the society in which we live and around the world. Each form of communication is unique in that it gives the public different perspectives about different aspects of society, leaders, wars and conflicts.
Television had a huge impact on how communication influenced the American public in their opinions on the certain things such as war and politics. One significant instance was the election of 1960. What became known as the first television election, had a great influence on the American people and how they chose their new president. John F. This form of communication would prove to be a positive effect on how the public chose their leader . It was something beyond the spoken word for the people as they could see what kind of person their president would be instead of only seeing still photos and reading what their plans were for the country.
Before there was televison, the written word, and the still photo were major forms of mass communication which was represented in a newspaper. Newspapers, before radio gave the public the information and the facts how they were. They told the stories to the people the way the writers wanted to tell them, but this was not always the truth. In some cases it was very misleading.
