There are many reasons to reformat my hard drive. I can use the reformat process when my computer gets a bad virus that a normal anti-virus program cannot remove. When I have to many files saved to my hard drive it is easier to just reformat and start fresh. There are other reasons like installing a new operating system or if I am replacing my hard drive altogether. What ever the reason is reformatting is a good way to start fresh with my computer.
There are several things I do before I start to reformat. The first thing is deciding what files and folders that are currently on my computer that I want to keep. Backing up the files and folders is very important especially when you cannot get that information back. I will also need to know what all the componets are inside my computer and get the drivers for them. If I don’t have the drivers for some of the components then I will have to download them from the internet. I will also need to have a Windows 98 boot disk.
I am now ready to start the reformatting
Now that I have deleted and created a new partition I need to reboot my computer. Once the computer is loaded up again I will choose to start without cdrom support again. I am now back at the A prompt this time I will need to format the new partition I created. At the A prompt I will type format C: and press enter this will start the format process, which will take a long time depending on the size of my hard drive. I will have to reboot one last time and this time I will choose to start with cdrom support.
