The Beauty of Words

Words are so amazing. When put together in the correct order they can invoke such an array of emotion, have life-altering effects, kill people, and save peoples’ lives. The best part is that anyone can have this ability and the power to affect the world in any way they want. This is one of the reasons I love writing.

I believe my writing journey truly began in second grade. Throughout the year we wrote small paragraphs about our family members to be made into a book at the end of the year. I finished my entire book in half the time. Mrs. Kirk recognized my excitement and love of writing and suggested to my parents that I take a youth Creative Writing course in summer school.

“Summer school?! I got straight A’s!” was my attitude toward the idea because I took it as an insult. But, I took the class and had a blast expanding my book. I even wrote a fantasy story and created a board game to go along with it.

I write what I want and I think this attitude is the main reason why I enjoy writing, and some students my age hate it. To me, it’s not about pleasing someone else. Writing is the beautiful task of combining words, phrases, and sentences into wonderful works of art that affect everyone they come in contact with, no matter the outcome.

A week had passed. The tension built up inside of me as she walked around and handed back our essays, occasionally leaning over to whisper something into a peer’s ear. She didn’t say anything when she got to me; she just laid the paper on my desk. “A+. I want to talk to you, See me,” the end of my essay read. “See me?” I thought. This couldn’t be good news. With my luck she probably wants to talk to me about being too young to be in a serious relationship or some kind of lecture on pre-marital sex. I swallowed hard and walked up to her desk after class and asked her what she wanted to see me about. I was so relieved to hear what she had to say! She asked me if I was alright with the situation my boyfriend and I were in, and told me if I ever needed any advice or someone to talk to that I could come to her. I think th
