Church and State

It seems like every time you turn on the news, there are some group of high priced lawyers or judges that are trying desperately to remove God from our free society. They always yell, “Separation of church and state!” Why is this so, when those words do not even appear in the first amendment? The fact is, those words were taken from a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptist Association in hopes of removing all fears that the government would not create a national religion like what was founded in England in the 1600’s. In my opinion, this entire argument of church and state is not only hypocritical but it also contradicts itself in many ways.

Did you know that our United States Constitution was founded on Biblical principles? When the Constitution was researched, the source that was most often quoted was the Bible. Our founding fathers were extremely intelligent men that knew in order for a new country to stand strong it must have a strong foundation. The Bible was in fact that foundation in which this country and our government was built and created. I think people have read too much into the phrase "separation of church and state", which was meant to be a separation of civil authority from church authority.

I solely believe that our founding fathers never meant to separate church and state. They were clearly trying to convince the Baptists that this country would not rule and dictate to its citizens how they were to worship God.
