The Analysis of Development of Hamlet’s Character Throughout

One of the key moments of the character’s development is the scene where traveling actors come to the castle and offer their service to the Prince. Many thoughts and emotions ran through Hamlet’s mind when he found out about players’ arrival. There where lots of hidden qualities and traits of Hamlet’s character, which we learned about during the Prince’s conversation with one of the actors. Moreover, Hamlet’s final monologue in that scene was crucial in distinguishing his real personality. In the scene ii of Act II we learn that not only is Hamlet a well educated and extremely intelligent individual, he is also a very wise man. In conclusion, I would like to stress the importance of scene ii Act II in author’s development of Hamlet’s character. We, readers, discovered the qualities in the Prince’s personality, which were hidden before that scene, or were buried behind the “mask” of Hamlet’s “insanity”. Those qualities were: sharp mind, wisdom, ability to concentrate on a goal, dareness to fight back, and, of course, one of the most important – self-criticism. However, the character of Hamlet is very controversial. Every critic could interpret Hamlet’s logic in a different way. There could be hidden drives in Hamlet’s behavior that we will discover in the future. At the same time, there might be traits in Hamlet’s character that critics tend to imagine, which do not exist. We should not idealize Hamlet – he was just a human with his strengths and weaknesses. However, we should admire the author’s genius in writing a classical play, which has made people think, has made generations wonder.

As we already found in the Act I of the play, Hamlet is a very sensitive, self-centered, and even somewhat egoistic character. After his father’s death and his mother’s remarriage, Hamlet felt as though the whole world had turned upside down. He felt left out, lonely and betrayed.
