Heydrich had great ambition, and from the start of his career, aimed at the leadership of the Third Reich.

He was born in Halle on 7th March 1904 to an actress and a musician, which is where he got his Jewish blood. So, although he looked typically Aryan (unlike most other political leaders), he was actually partly Jewish, although he kept this hidden. Later, he issued many writs for slander over accusations about his ancestry.

During WW1, he was too young to join German Army, but, at age of 16, he joined the Right wing Freikorps.

Heydrich, it seems, did have power in the Nazi Party as he controlled several things. For example, he was the Head of the Political Police, and was in charge of the ‘Final Solution’. However, he was controlled by Hitler and obeyed him throughout his life. And, because of his Jewish ancestry, this made his power slightly rocky because of the fear that he would be exposed. On the whole though, Heydrich was one of the most powerful, along with Himmler as they were mainly responsible for the Holocaust.

Therefore, along with Himmler, Heydrich shared the greatest responsibility for organising the Holocaust.
