Farewell to Manzanar
1) At the beginning of the book the setting is Ocean Park, California. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Wakatsuki family moves to Terminal Island (a Asian community), but then Terminal Island is evacuated and the family moves to Boyle Heights another minority ghetto. The war causes racial tension and Japanese- Americans are moved to Manzanar, which is a American concentration camp at the edge of the Mojave Desert. After the war the Wakatusuki’s move to West Long Beach for a short time and then finally move to San Jose. I would shoot this movie in California for all the places they lived besides Manzanar because u could recreate all those places perfectly there and then for Manzanar I would shoot it in a studio and recreate everything so my crew wouldn’t have to worry about the weather conditions. 2) Five situation or conflicts I would change in the book are: 1. When papa burned the flag and papers he shouldn’t of because either way they could still consider him a trader, 2. When the Wakatsuki’s are hanging out and eating with other family’s it wouldn’t break them up because no matter what you’ll always remember who your family are and none of them stayed with the other family’s they were with so I woul
5) Five characters I would cast for this movie would be Jennifer Love Hewitt as Jeanne because she can be very emotional and has that innocent feeling and look that I get when I think of Jeanne, Al Pacino as Ko Wakatsuki because he’s had some drinking problems and could relate to Ko in that sense, when Ko was getting questioned I can see Al Pacino answering those questions and is a really good actor who could play just about anyone, Elizabeth Tailor as Mama Wakatsuki because I can see her being the strong supportive mother that Mama shows in the book and always trying to keep the family together, Josh Hartnett as Woody Wakatsuki because he is a hardworking honest guy that I can see playing Woody and when Woody had to act like a second dad to the children I see Josh Hartnett doing that, Kristin Dunst as Toyo because Toyo is a really nice aunt who gave the Wakatuski family money to come to America and I see Kristin Dunst as a nice lady who would do something like that. 4) The five most important character’s in Farewell to Manzanar are Jeanne, she is the narrator of the story and tells the story of her family and her struggles after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Ko Wakatusuki, he’s the farther in the story, he’s falsely arrested and imprisoned in a American Jail during the war, people think he’s a trader and its hard for him to get over, when he starts to drink a lot he puts a lot of pressure on his wife to support the children, Mama Wakatsuki, she try’s to keep the family strong during the hard times, has to support the family since her husband starts to drink, try’s to make the camp seem more American like, Woody Wakatsuki, the oldest son is always hard working and honest, he was like a father to the other children when there dad is imprisoned, joins the American army to show his loyalty, Toyo, if she didn’t give the family money to go to America none of this would of happened so she is responsible for their hard times/bad times in America. Five least important character’s are William, Eleanor, Frances, Lillian, Reijuio children of the Wakatsuki family aren’t really mentioned or have little or no affect on the story. dn’t of mentioned that, 3. When the people of Manzanar make Manzanar like a “little America” I wou
