Litwack says that access to the history of racial minorities, women, and ordinary people must be gained through sources other than written documents. In my opinion Litwack is partially right. I believe that through humor, music, and art of the people, their history can be understood thoroughly and accurately.
Humor of the people is one way to gain historical information from them. Their humor can in a way describe what they went through and how they feel. Jokes told by the people can tell stories of their past in a way, and also what happened to them during that history. Their humor can also be a way of them expressing their past and what happened in it. The point of the jokes and the way they are told can express how they felt about the times and trials they experienced in the past. Humor
can be a way for them to ease their minds about their past, and a way for them to deal with it. It can give them a sense that it is in the past, but also remind them that it did happen.
Another way to look into a people’s past is in their music. Their music can tell historical stories of the people. The lyrics and tone of the music can tell of events that the people went through. Music can also be a people’s expression of the way they feel about their past. The way a song or a piece of writing is to be sang or played can show if they are angry, sad or proud of their history. Music can also show how the people have come together because of their past, a way of them connecting in their own way.
Art is one thing all of us can look to for reference of a people’s past. It can say so
