Why Hitler?

How is it that Germany, who has produced such geniuses like Amadeus Mozart, Albert Einstein, and Ludwig von Beethoven, could elect someone as evil and diabolical as Adolf Hitler? .
In 1920, Hitler joined a small right-wing political group that wanted to overturn the effects of the Treaty of Versailles on Germany. This group was later renamed the National Socialists German Workers" Party. They called their form of German fascism, Nazism. In 1923, Hitler was arrested during a march on Munich to gain power. In jail, Hitler wrote his book Mein Kampf, or "my struggle". In his book, Hitler created a blueprint for the Nazi party to follow. He stated that Germans, mostly those who were blond and had blue eyes were said to be the master race or "Aryan" race. He considered all other races, especially Jews, Slavs, and Gypsies, were inferior and even subhuman. He believed that Germany needed more space and promised to get that by invading Europe and Russia. .
After Hitler was free from prison the Great Depression broke out across the world, causing factories to stop making German goods and banks closed. By 1932, nearly 30 percent of Germany's work force was sent into unemployment. In their time of need, frightened and confused Germans turned to Hitler for a sense of hope and strong leadership. .
Ignoring Hitler's strong message in Mein Kampf, in January 1933, Germany persuaded President Paul von Hindenburg to name Hitler as Chancellor. Erich Ludendorff predicted that Hitler would only bring disaster and misery to Germany. He was right.
It turns out that the only reason the Germany wanted to elect Hitler as chancellor was because they were confused about the man they wanted and ignored all the signs that told them what kind of monster he really was.
