CMOS Inverter

The CMOS inverter should take the given sine wave and invert it so that the high peaks will become the low peaks and the low peaks will become the high peaks. The wave will remain in the same position, but it will be inverted. An easier way to visualize it is to say that a 1 goes into the inverter, then a 0 will come out. If a 0 goes into the inverter, then a 1 will come out. This happens because we have a p-channel FET, which is connected to Vdd, and an n-channel FET which is connected to ground. The P-FET is normally closed, meaning when there is no voltage applied to it, it will allow current to flow through it. The N-FET is normally open, meaning when there is no voltage applied to it, it will not allow current to flow through it. So when a 0 goes into the inverter, the P-FET is the only FET closed. The P-FET is connected to Vdd, so it will allow a 1 to go to Vout. If a 1 goes

We started the experiment by getting our CD4007 CMOS inverter and wired it to the bread board as shown in Figure 1. These connections make up a CMOS inverter with one p-channel FET and one n-channel FET. We hooked the CMOS inverter up to the 5 V power supply, connected pin 10, which drives the FET’s, to the function generator, and then we connected pins 10 and 12 to the oscilloscope. Once all the proper connections were made, we powered up the function generator, power supply, and oscilloscope. We put the power supply at 5V. The function generator was set up to produce a 0-5V sine wave, at 200 Hz, with an amplitude of 2.5V and an offset of 1.25V. We then observed the transfer curve. Once we got all our information from this graph, we set the function generator to a 1 MHz square wave. This allowed us to calculate the rise and fall times.
