Malcolm’s transformation did not start until he entered prison where he had a lot of time to think and talk to other cell mates about their experiences. Being sentenced to jail time made it easy for Malcolm’s family to get a hold of him and send letters to keep in touch. Malcolm’s brother Reginald wrote him letters influencing Malcolm to take up the Islamic Religion and to follow Allah. Reginald said, “‘God is a man.’ ‘His real name is Allah’” [Satan (183)]. Being surrounded by different people and having a new feel for a different life, it would change Malcolm for the better. Prison’s impact on Malcolm was huge to his future and he would finally appreciate what kind of life there is out for him to live. Experiencing life as an inmate gave Malcolm the opportunity to learn new life lessons and by taking advantage of what was given to him helped greatly when it came to becoming a minister where he would be giving lectures about Allah and the Islamic Religion.
