J.R.R. Tolkien
The First Age may have begun with the awakening of the Elves. The early history, save for the Battle of the Powers and the Great Journey, is obscure, for most of the Eldar were in the Far West, and other races kept few records. Moreover, until the rising of the Moon and the Sun there seems to have been no count of years in Middle-earth, although it is certain that the First Age was far longer than the following two ages put together. The First Age ended with the Wars of Beleriand and the Great Battle, in which the Host of Valinor broke Thangorodrim and overthrew Morgoth. Then most of the Noldor returned into the Far West and dwelt in Eressea within sight of Valinor; and many of the Sindar went over Sea also.
Aye, the Second Age of Middle Earth. These were the dark years for men of Middle-earth, but the years of the glory of Numenor. Of events in Middle-earth the records are few and brief, and their dates are often uncertain.
In the begining of this age many of the Eldar still remained. Most of these dwelt in Lindon west of the Ered Luin; but before the building of the Barad-dur many of the Sindar passed eastward, and some established realms in the forests far away, where their people were mostly the Avari

Besides being a philologist and a writer, Tolkien was also a teacher. (Was picked to help put together and edit the Oxford Dictionary.) He taught at Oxford University until his retirement. “It was the summer of some time early in the 1930’s when Tolkien was marking school exam papers, and as he turned to a page that was left blank, for no particular reason he scribbled, “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit” on the blank sheet. He didn’t know what it was then, but being a scholar, he decided to investigate the story behind it. Tolkien later told of his discovery to his children and friends. The feedback was welcoming and Tolkien was encouraged to finish the story and to have it published” (“Nuinamartion”).
The minor characters are still very important to the plotline of the book, even if they only appear shortly. Ringwraiths are also known as the Nazgul. They are servants of Sauron and are in search of the ring of power. They stop at nothing to try and reach the ring bearer and even though they are defeated numerous time they are neither living or dead and always return. Arwen Evenstar is the daughter of Lord Elrond. She is an elf but falls in love with the man, Aragorn. She binds herself to him and throught the entire story she finds a way to help him and the rest of the Fellowship. Bilbo Baggins is a character not to be forgotten either, for he is the Uncle of Frodo and the reason Frodo must do what he has to.
In the end of the Second Age, Sauron (The Dark Lord) is overthrown by Gil-Galad and Elendil in the first War of the Ring, who perish. Isildur takes the One Ring and ends up dying because of it. But, Sauron passes away and the Ringwraiths (Ringwraiths are the men whom the rings of power were given too and were seduced into evil by Sauron) go into the shadows and the Second Age is over.
vari (Silvan elves). Thranduil (the Wood Elf King) was king in the north of Greenwood the Great (later to become Mirkwood). In Lindon, north of the Lune, dwelt Gil-Galad, last of the Kings of the Noldor. He was acknowledged as High King of the Elves of the West. In Lindon, south of the Lune, dwelt for a time Celeborn, kinsman of Thingol (King of the Sindar Elves) and his wife Galadriel, greatest of Elven women (She was a kinsman of Gil-Galad and a Noldoran Elf and also one of the 3 elven ring bearers).
The history of Middle Earth tends to get a little…confusing. The focus of the book The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is on a ring. The One Ring to be more exact. The Fellowship of the Ring is the first book in the dazzling trilogy The Lord of the Rings. The book picks up where The Hobbit, also written by Tolkien, left off. In The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins joins a wizard named Gandalf and group of dwarves to defeat a dragon. During the course of the adventure though, Bilbo finds a ring. In the Fello
