Should Capital Punishment be Banished?
Capital Punishment is the ultimate sentence someone can get for murder
and other horrible and heinous crimes. The death penalty has been around for
thousands of years. It dates back all the way to before the Bible with the
crucifixion of Jesus. Many methods of capital punishment have been performed
throughout the years. There were obviously the crucifixions, but there was also stoning,
beheading, hanging, shootings from a firing squad, the electric chair, gas chambers, and
now they have lethal injections. All of this sounds horrible and inhumane, but people must
think about what the criminal did before he/she was sentenced to death. People must
realize that these people need to die for their horrible crimes! However, if we kill them
then we will stoop to their level. If we throw them into a jail cell for years and years then
they will feel like they have gone through hell and hopefully want to change.
Those who support the banishment of capital punishment would say that
“it is nothing but a barbaric and inhumane act of vengeance on people” (Garcia1).
