They are only alerted when there is a lawsuit filed against them. Fast food companies take advantage of people who are strapped for time and money. This leads to the soaring medical costs for people who are obese and need help. With the growth of fast food chains there is an increase in obesity. If fast food companies do not make healthier menus, they will have to eventually end up paying costly lawsuits, which in turn could make companies go out of business.
