Confucian Influence
If you want to talk about someone who can make a difference in a society and culture, you want to talk about Confucius. Confucius made a set of rules and standards that the Chinese people were supposed to live by. Confucius had an opinion on all major issues that were present in a country then and are present in a country today. It is amazing how well his theories and thoughts have withstood the test of time. Even after hundreds of years of cultural changes, Confucius’ views on many of China’s issues are still in use today not only in China, but around the world as well. Confucius was quite clear about what he thought was good and bad or right and wrong. Cruelty and other acts of hate and violence were not a part of a Confucian life style. In fact, he condoned people for using those kinds of behavior. Confucius taught people to be polite. Confucius started the idea of respect inside of a family. The prompt for my essay is supposed to be about Confucian influence on East Asia in general. And as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I have basically written only about China. This is because the other countries used the exact same Confucian values as China; they just changed the minor details of them to fit their needs. For example, Japan adopted the same social triangle of hierarchy. All they did to change it was to change the ranking of the citizens. Another example would be the religions. All the countries of East Asia have similar religions. Finally, one might think that the European countries and America did a lot for East Asian industry, and that is correct, but a lot of people don’t realize how much East Asia and its Confucian values influenced Americans and Europeans. One of America’s most important values is freedom; the freedom to say what you please, to practice the religion of your choice, and to get a good education. These values are what made America what it is today. We can also talk about Chinese culture. How many people love Chinese food and different Chinese festivals? The bottom line is: Confucius had an enormous impact on not only East Asia, but also the entire world. me popular because of Confucius. I think that a big issue today for Confucius would be China’s human rights policy. I don’t believe Confucius would be a supporter of the extremely cruel punishment of criminals in China today.
