A Cage of Butterflies, by Brian Caswell, is a scientific thriller. Dr Larsen starts an institute for kids who are geniuses, in order to study them. In the institute there is Gretel, a whiz at multi-dimensional mathematics, Mikki and Greg a crippled boy, who each have a huge general knowledge, Gordon and Lesley who have extraordinary memories, which allow them to play a game of chess against each other with out needing a chess board, Chris, an electronics expert, and Katie, a young 10 year old who has a strong thinking ability.

Strange things start to happen in the Institute. Katie begins getting messages in her mind from children called Babies
