Hanson
In 1994, it was Jonathan Taylor Thomas. In 1996 it was Titanic. If someone were to pick any year during my life, I could tell you something I was obsessed with over the course of that year. Sometimes it was people, other times movies or bands. When I say obsessed, for all extensive purposes, I mean I talked about these things non-stop and researched them endlessly. When it was a person that I was obsessed with, I read biography after biography, trying to learn as much about my current ‘idol’ as possible. When it was a movie, I would download clips and interviews of the stars. For example, in 1997, I went to see the movie Ever After with a neighbor of mine. I loved it and as soon as I got home, I began downloading any clips from the movie that I could find. As soon as it came out on video, I bought it and watched it continually. I ruined the videotape because I watched it so many times and I still have the entire movie memorized. Though I truly was obsessed with all these things, none of these obsessions match my longest-lasting obsession, the band Hanson. I am not ashamed to admit that I am a Hanson fanatic even though they lost popularity years ago. In 1997, when I was twelve years old, Hanson burst onto the pop charts with t
Though Hanson’s music was popular, the band slowly began to develop a reputation as a 90’s ‘boy band,’ much like the ever-popular Backstreet Boys or N*SYNC. With this, their popularity began to fade. They released a Christmas album, Snowed In, which was relatively successful, but sales came nowhere near that of Middle of Nowhere. Their true fans continued to buy their albums, including a CD of pre-recorded songs called 3-Car Garage, and a live CD, Live from Albertane. Live from Albertane was recorded during Hanson’s first tour, the Albertane tour in 1998. Two years passed before another CD, This Time Around, was released and the Hanson brothers toured again. I was fortunately able to attend one of these concerts. However, the second tour was not very successful and Hanson’s popularity was not quite as prominent as it was during the teeny-bopping times of the 90s. Hanson is made up of three brothers- Isaac, Taylor and Zachary Hanson. When their music first hit the scene, Isaac was 16 years old, Taylor was 14, and Zac was 12. When the group first became popular, Isaac played lead guitar and did backups vocals, Taylor was the lead singer and keyboard player, and Zac played the drums and also sang back up. For the most part, they still play the same instruments, but now they have all been trained on each instrument so they sometimes switch. For the ages that the boys were when they began, they were very talented musicians. On their first CD, The Middle of Nowhere, Hanson displayed a great deal of natural talent. The CD was enjoyable to listen to because the songs were not only catchy, but each sounde
