War of the Worlds

H.G Wells wrote the War Of The Worlds in 1898. Wells was born in 1866 and was a scientist and teacher before he begun to write books. Although the novel was written over 106 years ago, it is set in the future (the twentieth century). When Wells wrote the book, Queen Victoria was still on the throne and the first and second world wars were yet to happen. The novel is a science fiction novel, which I think means fictional predictions of the future.

In chapter one of the novel, Martians are watching the plant closely. People have noticed strange things on mars, which they think, are volcanoes, but in actual fact, what they are seeing is explosions going off once every 24 hours. In chapter three of the novel, the narrator arrives at the scene and agrees to help out, a huge crowd is gathered, the narrator is asked to go to the lord of the manner to ask for help with the crowds. The newspapers are already speculating about what they will find.

In chapter two of the novel, a meteorite falls to earth and Oily goes to investigate, when Ogivly arrives, instead of a meteorite, Ogilvy finds a huge metal cylinder. Ogilvy realises that the lid of the cylinder is turning and there are noises coming from inside. Ogilvy goes to find help; he finds Henderson, a journilist who agrees to help him. A crowd gathers in the park to wait for a scientist who will open the cylinder.
