A choice :Abortion

I am against abortion because as an intern at a women’s clinic I have seen the physical, mental and emotional effects it has on many women. I have seen many women claim to suffer (to some degree) from post-traumatic stress disorder also known as “post-abortion syndrome” This is characterized by long-lasting guilt, depression, rage, social and sexual dysfunction.

Abortion was created to aid in certain situations in which a woman could not or did not want to give birth to a child or to care for the child. Abortion is a method in which the baby is still in the mother’s womb, and the living embryo/fetus is killed. Abortions are preformed for many reasons; if it is an unwanted pregnancy for social and/or financial reasons or if there are medical circumstances with the child or the mother. Such medical circumstances include; genetic irregularities, such as Down syndrome and the parent’s feel that they are incapable of caring for the child. However, often, what are not taken into consideration are the negative effects after abortion, psychological and physical. Ultimate results may actually be worse that the problems, which were to be solved to begin with. These after-effects should be focused on and dealt with in a

• Women who are highly ambivalent or confused about their abortion decision/ and or had great difficulty making the decision.

There are so many sad situations that deal with abortion every day. This is why I am against abortion; Think if you were to be the result of an abortion decision. It is such a volatile issue; it is probable yet, unrealistic to expect this aspect of the controversy to die down soon, if at all. Not only to abortions end the life of a baby, but they also have harmful physical, emotionally, and psychological effects of the women involved. We need to protect and value all human life from the moment of conception to natural death. The future of America and our world rest on that.

The first young woman’s story is so sad to me. She had gotten pregnant by her boyfriend of nine months. Clearly her boyfriend was caring and loved her very much. But, she was too scared to inform her parents that she was not a virgin let alone the fact that she was pregnant. She came in three months later to talk to one of the clinic’s counselors. She had reported severe remorse, regret, depression, and guilt. These are several of the common after- effects. “Women who are most at risk for developing psychological problems related to abortion tend to be:

• Women who are coerced by others into having an abortion

• Women with previous psychiatric problems

So, this story is a prime example that teens are not capable of dealing with such a heavy, controversial matter. The majority of women that I saw come back with regrets were teen girls.
