Steve Woolman, a winner of an IBBY Ena Noel award, is an illustrator of children’s books. He was awarded for his body of work and books like ‘The Watertower’, which also won the Children’s picture book of the year, and he also was short listed for the Australian Book Publisher Association design award. Some of the other children’s books that he worked on were Dreamwalker and Wild Heart.
The ideas and influences from Steve Woolman were from children. A lot of the styles of his illustrations from his work are very beautiful and are distinctively stained and they are glass styled illustrations. The books he created also have a lot of simple text for children and the illustrations are richly coloured images drawn on old-stained glass windows. Steve Woolman drew a lot of the illustrations in the book ‘Fantasy’. His illustrations appeal to all children and even some young adults. Steve Woolman used eerie black surrounds and a lot of big screen styled landscapes in his illustrations.

The main subject of the illustration would probably have to be the humanoid/alien standing on the middle of the field stretching out both of its arms. It looks like a woman by the long hair and skinny and long sharp fingernails. The clothes and ornaments that are on her arms and neck also make her look female and she is also wearing a long dress. Her face looks like it has a lot of mixes of different animals, particularly wild animals. The face has ears which spread out like a cat. The face looks like a tiger or a lion with sharp and long teeth and it also looks like she is roaring. This picture is giving a feeling of fear and terror. The colours on the creature can also be showing or symbolizing the sex of humanoid. Her clothes which are red and have gold ornaments on them makes her look feminine. The background colours used are grey and white colours with a little black in it. These are all shades and give the illustration an eerie feel to it. The focal point would probably be the subject or alien or the title ‘Dreamwalker’ itself. The contrast was different between the sky and the ground. It also separated the humanoid and background a
