Dasani

Water, water everywhere but here’s Dasani to drink. Although Dasani is a recent addition to the family of Coca-Cola, it has gained popularity in no time at all. Now what is it that distinguishes Dasani from the others? One, it is Coca-Cola’s brand. Another, it is very popular. Its ratings in terms of sales and popularity prove it if nothing else does. However, before jumping to conclusions, it is important to present the facts and hence, there are a few things everyone needs to know about water and Dasani. This culmination of these facts is what makes Dasani.

Water is the single most abundant substance in the human body, making upto 60 percent of an adult’s weight and up to 80 percent of an infant’s weight. A person can live several days without food, but just a few days without water. Like air, water is essential to life. Because water is so important, health and nutrition experts recommend drinking at least two liters of water each day. This makes bottled water a convenient way to help ensure that enough water is consumed at home, work or wherever a person may be.

Dasani is purified, non-carbonated water enhanced with minerals for a pure, fresh taste. It comes in light blue-tint

For starters, bottled water companies are required to use approved sources. There are two types of sources from which bottled water can be drawn: the first type is natural sources (i.e. wells). By law, these sources must be protected from surface intrusion and other environmental influences. This requirement ensures that surface water contaminants such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia are not present.

• Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), that cover everything from the plant and equipment to process controls in both the general food and bottled water-specific categories.

Coca-Cola has become the third largest bottled Water Company when measured by dollar sales. Perrier Group of America (PGA) and Pepsi’s Aquafina are the first, second respectively. Coke has gone from owning no U.S. bottled water brands just a few years ago to holding the two best-selling brands with shares of 8.6% in 2001. Sales grew a hefty 40% in 2002. Sales of Coke's Dasani have more than doubled each year since its introduction in 1999, and its wholesale dollars totaled approximately $560 million in 2001. Over the last three years, Coke's global bottled water business has grown at a compound annual rate of 59%.
