Financial Disclosure

Organizations recognize and respect that employees may take part in legitimate financial, business and other activities outside their jobs. However, those activities must be lawful and free of conflicts with their responsibilities as employees.

Employees must not misuse organizations’ resources or influence, or discredit their good name and reputation. The effectiveness of this policy depends in large part on the cooperation of all employees in disclosing any situations that may be contrary to the intent of the policy and the ethical standards that it expresses.

With this, many organizations have established core requirements for their organizations to follow. General Electric Company states that all employees must disclose their outside activities, financial interests or relationships that may present a possible conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict. Employees are instructed to make their disclosures in writing to their manage

r as well as to company legal counsel or the business’ finance manager.

On 27 February 1995, the Mayor of the New York Police Department issued an executive order to establish duties that required the full cooperation of all members of the Police Department in regard to financial disclosure. He stated that if full cooperation was not given to The Mollen Commission in the performance of its audits, studies or analysis, there would be reason for removal from office or employment or other appropriate penalty. The NYPD is required to provide any documents, records or reports required by the Commission.

In addition, General Electric Company reminds their employees to avoid actions or relationships which might conflict or appear to conflict with their job responsibilities or the interest of General Electric. Specifications are made to employees not to misuse their resources, intellectual property, time or facilities.
