One of the biggest responsibilities a person faces in their life is raising a baby. At one point in time, two people did not think of having a baby until they were married. However, in society today an unmarried woman being pregnant is very common. Although she cannot go back in time and make herself not pregnant, there is a solution: abortion. Some argue that that by making abortion legal would make pre-marital and/or unprotected sex more appealing because the responsibilities of having a baby would be abolished by having the opportunity to abort a pregnancy. But is it not justified to leave the choice of having the baby be made by the woman who would carry the baby for nine months? More importantly, why should she have to have such a responsibility due to certain circumstances that she has no control over, such as what if she was unable to support the baby, if she was raped and if the baby would be born unhealthy with a life threatening disease.

The responsibility of having a baby is not as glamorous as it seems to be on the television or on movies; it is a very serious role a woman has in her life and she should be mature enough to handle it. If a teenager becomes pregn

Lastly, if the unborn baby had a disease, why should a woman be expected to bring a baby into the world knowing the baby is sick? Carrying a baby with a disease would be dangerous for the baby and the mother. Having the baby with a disease in her body could make her life in danger as well. If the disease was fatal to the mother, then why not terminate the pregnancy and save the mother instead of possibly killing both mother and her diseased baby? Caring for a baby is a gigantic responsibility itself. But having to care for a baby that is mentally ill and/or a baby that has a disease that would be an extremely demanding responsibility for a mother because the baby would have additional needs to treat his/her disease, such as having to have constant hospital care, surgeries, and/or other special needs. Another reason why a woman should have the choice would be what if the disease was fatal for the just child? It would be so devastating for a pregnant woman to know that her unborn baby may not live past the age of two. How would it be justified to force this woman to experience such a painful tragedy?

If a woman cannot provide for her baby due to lack of emotional and financial stability, she should not be expected to care for a child. A woman, who has been taken advantage of and has become pregnant with a man she does not want to have a baby, should have the choice to not continue the pregnancy.
