Recycling

Recycling is taking a used item and remaking it into a new useful item, instead of throwing it away as waste. By turning waste materials into useable resources, recycling provides a way to take care of waste while reducing pollution, conserving energy, creating jobs and building more industries. Like burying trash in landfills or burning it in incinerators, recycling also costs money. When all of these factors are taken into account, the advantages of recycling are apparent.

The benefits of recycling and the prevention of pollution in manufacturing result from the use of recycled rather than raw materials. Recycled materials have already been refined and processed once, so making the second time is usually much cleaner and less energy using than the first. Studies show that the benefits of recycling outweigh any environmental problems from the collection, processing and transport of recyclable materials in recycling programs. Much less energy is needed to make recycled materials into new products. The energy saved through recycling is about five times better then the cost of throwing trash in landfills.

In the past recycling meant going to a place sorting all your recyclables and leaving. No

Every week my family would get the trash and cans ready to be picked up. Every week it would be me who would haul it out to the end of the driveway. I hated my job because I would have to carry two things instead of one it just made it harder for me. I though what a useless program; why do I have to make the effort of separating cans from bottles. It’s not my job let the garbage company handle it. If everyone though the same way I did there probably would not be much of this planet left for us to call home.
