Ghandi
Brown, Judith M. Prisoner of Hope: Mohandas Gandhi. New Haven and London: Yale University Press, 1989. This book talks about how Gandhi was an unsuccessful lawyer that decided to become a self- appointed champion of Indians in South Africa. The book goes on to talk about how Gandhi became a nationalist leader for India and how he opposed British imperialism. His religious visionary was widely known as Mahatma ‘ Great Soul.’ Later in his life he was charged with inconsistency but he proclaimed that he never actual thinks before he writes, he just writes what he believes to be truth worthy at any given moment. This book helps me tap into Gandhi as a person. I believe this book goes with the book I have chosen very smoothly because I am reading Gandhi’s’ autobiography and this book falls into a small portion of the bigger book I am reading.
Mehta, Ved. Mahatma Gandhi and His Apostles. New York and London: Yale University Press. Copyright by Ved Mehta, 1976. This book talks about Gandhi’s apostles or should I say followers. The book reveals to the reader the dedication the apostles had for Gandhi. They would go on long journeys with him or for him to spread his religious thinking. This book helps shed some light on Gandhi’s principles, purposes, ideas, and actions. The apostles talk about Gandhi’s everyday rituals and what they thought of them. This book describes Gandhi’s love for his people and what he thought many of them should do. This book really looks at the religious spectrum of what is Gandhi and shows the reader the love that many people had for him. Desai, Mahadev (translated from the original in Gujarati). Gandhi. An Autobiography. Boston: Beacon Press, 1993.
