Agustus Caesar
He was born in sixty three BC by the name of Gaius Octavious. Adopted by his great uncle Julius Caesar at the age of four he was almost certainly to be his heir. At the age of only sixteen Gaius was given his first opportunity to show his abilities. Julius sent Gaius to Spain to assist his great-uncle in one of the civil war campaigns. Caesar was so impressed by Gaius that he was soon given much more responsibility in his role as heir apparent. While training solders in Greece and continuing his education he received the news that would change his life. His great-uncle Julius Caesar had been assassinated by a group of conspirators which included his friend Marcus Brutus. At the age of only eighteen Gaius Octavious had to make the biggest decision of his life. He was unsure weather or not to return to Rome and claim his position as the heir to Julius Caesar. At only eighteen he would surely not get the respect of the governing council or its citizens. After deciding to return to Rome he needed a way to connect with the people. He changed his name to Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus knowing that this would get him the attention he needed. It also would gain the support of Julius Caesars solders
During Augustus Caesars rule he did many great things for the people of Rome. He took Rome to the forefront of civilization with his ideas and contributions. Augustus began to build temples throughout Rome at his own expense. He also rebuilt Rome’s inner city from the ground up. He had the aqueducts constructed along with the first public bath houses. He staged gladiator games for the people’s entertainment and provided public art displays. Augustus repaired all the roads of Rome along with building new public buildings such as libraries. He continued to giving disbursements of money to every Roman citizen throughout his life. All of these accomplishments made him vary popular among the citizens of Rome. Augustus himself said that he found Rome a city of brick and left her a city of marble. When Gaius returned to Rome the council did not want him to take power because they saw this as their opportunity to restore the republic government. In their defiance Gaius began his quest to become the leader of Rome. He began by fulfilling the terms of Julius Caesars will, which included the dispersing of money to every Roman citizen. The council was unwilling to help so Gaius financed the disbursement himself. When this became known it made him immensely popular with the citizens.
