When Rahm Emanuel was named as Barack Obama's nominee for Chief of Staff, there were mixed feelings from the citizenry and the politicians. While some felt it was a move of sheer genius, others worried that Emanuel would cause problems. His style has been described as that of "a profane, hyperactive attack dog". Still, those in the know felt that he would be the perfect gatekeeper to the Oval Office.
Emanuel is anything but conventional. He admits that he never goes to town halls, preferring to talk to the voters in grocery stores and other public places. He even admits that he wakes up some mornings hating himself as much as others hate him.
If, indeed, Rahm Emanuel would hoist himself on his own petard for Obama, this would be something that may never have been seen in politics, at least not in this generation. And what is this actually saying? It may say that he is a person anyone would want to have as a friend. On the other hand, it may say that Obama is willing to throw his supposed close friend to the wolves. All we can do is wait and see.
It's not even strange that Emanuel would be at the forefront of this issue. After all, what does a Chief of Staff do more of than control access to the President? In that light, it isn't strange at all that Emanuel would do everything he can to deflect att
