Analysis of Barack Hussein Obama's Inaugural Speech

Following President Richard M. Nixon's resignation in August 1974, President Gerald Ford began his inaugural address with the observation that the "nation's long nightmare was finally over." Many observers might have felt the same way as they watched President Barack Obama deliver his inaugural address on January 20, 2009 at the U.S. Capitol in front of two million American citizens. A powerful orator and charismatic individual, the president went on to

opportunities for improvement. For example, President Obama indicated that, "We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories" (Obama 5). The president also emphasized that in the Age of Information, new approaches to the delivery of educational services were required, but here again, the people of the United States were up to the challenges ahead: "We will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age," the president enthused, and went on to add, "All this we can do. All this we will do" (Obama 5).
