Clothes in the 70's vs. Clothes of the 2000's
Clothes of the 70’s vs. Clothes of the 2000’s Ever heard of Chic, Sergio, Member’s only, Gloria Vandabalt, Brothers, Keds, or Roxanne's? Many high school students would probably say, “I heard some of those names on the VH1 show, “I Love the 70’s.” Now if I was to say names like, Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, and Express, students would probably realize they have at least one of these name brands in their closet. It seems like every year fashion fads go further and further back into history, especially fashions from the 1970’s. Although the fashion styles in the 70’s are different from the 2000’s fashions, there are some surprising similarities that are coming back every season. During the 1970’s there was a lot going on, there was the end of the Vietnam war, the black power movement, the women rights movement, the counterculture movement of the hippies, and many more events. With all of this events came an enormous variety of fashion. I have basically broken these different fashions into three categories; everyday wear, evening wear, and athletic wear. In everyday wear, came a variety of tops, bottoms, and shoes. Many of the hippies loved wearing the angel sleeve blouses with the
In evening wear a lot of the clothes were wore at the disco clubs, parties, or just going out for dinner. Many of the females wore mini skirts, which were probably worn to their local disco club. In the 70’s they also realize that they could cut up their jeans and make really cute denim skirts, that were worn by the teens in school. One of the most revealing outfits was the sizzler dress, whose main purpose was to show the matching underwear, that went with the dress. On the other hand one of the most old fashion outfits was the granny gown and the name of the outfit explains how not revealing it was. Now people of the 70’s liked variety and loved to express them self. One way to express them self was the sports, and they had to have to the perfect outfit for the sport as well. The last category is athletic wear, even though it’s called athletic wear most of the clothing wasn’t even wore for athletic purposes. One of the most popular articles of the clothing was the hot pants that were worn by everybody. In the 70’s they also wore track shorts that was usually worn for athletic purposes, along with tank tops. Now the other articles of clothing , that weren’t for athletic purposes was the satin jackets and velour outfits that came in a variety of colors. The last recognizable item was the tube sock , that can be seen wore by many of the NBA basketball players. There was a wide variety of clothing then and there is still a wide variety now. ir peasant skirts that allowed them to run around in the grass promoting love and peace. In the summer, people in the 70’s wore tops like the halter top and the tube top, that showed a little skin and stomach. Another summer item was the pedal pushers or the crap diggers, that was usually wore with their halter or tube top, at the beach. There were many rock stars in the 70’s and the teen
