My military education started in 1992, with the entrance into recruit training which has otherwise been known as boot camp. This training consisted of a two-month crash course into military life and the responsibilities associated with it. It covered topics such as first aid, safety, personal fitness and conditioning, as well as, personal and community health, basic swimming, fire fighting, and water survival skills. My present experiences of learning have become more positive. By participating in my learning environment and developing effective communication skills I will continue to enhance my learning ability.

I have had a broad range of training and educational experiences from the military and collegiate instructors. As diverse as they are, they have significantly contributed to the success I have had in my career and education thus far. The ability to apply myself to the current subject and support from my family and associates of arts goals will be achieved which will enhance my future career goals.

Over the past two years I have completed several navy correspondence courses that have assisted in the enhancement of my knowledge and career goals. One course that was beneficial was titled Understand and Confront Performance Problems. This course gives an insight into why poor performance has to be confronted. It also gives tips on confronting without intimidating. I found this to be beneficial in the day to day management role that I am faced with in my career. Another course that deemed fitting to my present career was the course titled The Fundamentals of Supply Chain Management. This course taught me the basics of supply chain management (SCM). I also gained knowledge on the evolution of SCM, collaboration within the supply chain, and the effects the system has on an organization. As a mid-level manager I am not only required to submit evaluation reports on myself but individuals under my supervision. The course titled Evaluation/Fitness Reports taught me the requirements for the submission of Enlisted Performance Evaluations/Fitness Reports and the regulations that govern them. Other correspondence courses that have not only assisted me personally but professionally are Financial Planning, Financial Ethics, Consumer Awareness, Investments/Savings, Inventory Management, Naval Aviation Maintenance. These courses have provided stepping stones which will assist in my future educational endeavors and career goals.

Prior to enrolling in the University of Phoenix I had completed three lower division courses in History and Business through the University of Texas. These courses provided me with the chance to experience the educational challenges I would face in the future. Though I had passed each course successfully I came to the understanding that I was not ready to further my education at that time. Five years later I found myself married with two small children and a newfound outlook on my educational future. Questions such as what career am I going to pursue once I leave the military, and what educational requirements will I need to make that career option a reality?
