"Why Did I Get Married" is a film written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry. This movie is about the difficulty of maintaining a solid relationship in modern times. Eight married couples, Mike and Sheila, Terry and Diane, Gavin and Patricia, Marcus and Angela, whom are all college friends plus one other unexpected friend, Sheila's friend Trina, go to Colorado for their annual week long reunion. But the mood changes when one couples infidelity comes to light. Secrets are exposed and each couple begins to question their own marriage. Through the course of the movie the couples deal with issues of commitment, betrayal, and forgiveness and examine their lives as individuals and as committed couples. The film explores the overall emotional impact that fidelity and love has on the constitution of marriage. The couples in the movie share many of the values as far as love and the will to work on their marriage and not just giving up on it. People get married initially perhaps for love, without thinking of the vow and symbol of making a forever commitment. They don't think of the 'work' it takes to sustain a healthy marriage. Although each couple had their individual problems in their marriage, they all shared the same problems from lack of communication, trust, respect, confidence, and the ability to control your actions. "Why Did I Get Married" portrays some of the many issues couples go through in American culture.

When look at all the characters they all have successful careers and seem to have successful marriages. Sheila and Mike (played by Jill Scott and Richard T. Jones) deal with the most common situations in most marriages. Man meets woman, they fall madly in love, they get married, and they have children and live happily ever after. However, like many other marriages this is not what happens. After being married for years Sheila gets comfortable and begins to put on some weight causing her husband Mike to become much unattached to her.
(Because we watched the movie, I do not recall the Act this quote occurred in.) ... We find out that the Queen was married to Hamlet but after his death, she married Claudius. ... I had never seen the movie before until class. In my opinion, I thought it was harder to follow the movie because of the unique dialogue. When I read Shakespeare, I need to read it a few times over to get the full understanding. ...
