Starting from the head, the Venus of Arles has curly hair that has been tied up with two bands of ribbons going across her head dividing her hair into three sections. The manner that her facial features have been carved suggests a neutral expression. This is seen by her eyes, which do not have pupils and sag down at the corners. The distinctive features of the face have been sculpted in a lifelike and realistic style. The realism is depicted through the proportionate face structure. Her jaw line and brow bones are also defined. There is a visible joint that connects the head and the rest of the body suggesting that the body and the head were found separated. The head of the statue is seen to be inclining downwards and towards the left side of her body looking at something. .
The Venus of Arles has been given irregular hemispherical breasts. The way that the upper body has been treated is rather sensitive because it does not show detailed anatomy and expresses a full-figured image. This is also evident as the hips are wider in proportion to the shoulders suggesting a sumptuous anatomy. The right shoulder is higher than the left shoulder. There are two objects on both the shoulders coming from the back and to the front. With the use of texture and folds it is suggested that they are two pieces of fabric. .
