An Overview of Poet J. M. Synge

            
             Synge is one of the greatest playwrights not only of Ireland but also of the entire world who loves to read literature in English. His dramas are full of the local 'habitation and name', the description of the Aran Island adds special dimension to the dramas of Synge. The dialect he uses is steeped with poetic fervor because it is the common language of the rustics lived in the vicinity of nature.              Chapter I.
             J.M. Synge and the Irish Dramatic Movement.
             Before the arrival of Synge into the literary domain Ireland was preparing for the revival or Renaissance which was yet to come to the forefront. Since 1880, Ireland had been producing a generation of young poets who were stank into creative activity by Standish O' Grady's epic history of Ireland. This wide intellectual awakening came to be known as the Celtic Renaissance. This literary Revival was so vital, towards the close of the nineteenth century, there came the wave of dramatic movement, it was immediately absorbed into the main current of literary activity the Irish Theatre had two phases of development. In the former, it was cosmopolitan in spirit and was engaged in producing dramas of idea under the influence of Ibsen, while in latter, it assumed a national character. The success and celebrity of the Irish theatre in the second phase were due as much to some Irish actors like the Fay brothers as to the Irish dramatists. In the entire chapter the Irish dramatic movement together with the passion of Synge in the particular movement has been assessed with utmost care. .

             Synge's Obiter Dicta on Drama.
