Early Hawaiian Government

Those in the Hawaiian Kingdom Government want to restore Hawaiian monarchy. The Hawaiian Kingdom Government is an organization of 1,000 followers and Queen Mahealani Kahau herself. This is just one of many native organizations supporting Hawaiian monarchy. These organizations give a big impact on Native Hawaiians. It changes their thinking of what is rightfully ours. It is the Hawaiians'' land and the Hawaiians standing up for their rights.
Over 200 years ago, you would call Hawaii a paradise. The beauty, climate, resources, and location gave imperial powers great interest. The government was under monarchy rule until 1893. The Hawaiians were living in a civilized society, before many ships came along. In the 1800's, foreigners came to Hawaii and brought diseases that cut the Hawaiian population in half. Americans greatly increased Hawaii's economy from the sugar industry, but were soon taking over Hawaii. The Americans even started to try to persuade Hawaiian king Kalakaua with their ideas to change Hawaii.
Soon Hawaii was losing more control of their country. A treaty of 1875 took Hawaiian sugar from the Hawaiians; in return, Hawaii did not let any other country own part of it. In 1886, the U.S. demanded more of Hawaii. They wanted to control Pearl Harbor. They wanted to give Hawaii renewed tax-free status for Hawaiian sugar, their sugar. Great Hawaiian king Kalakaua refused to let any more of his country be controlled by the U.S. The secret Hawaiian League was formed. The League wanted to overthrow monarchy, and wanted the U.S. to annex Hawaii. Kalakaua was forced at gunpoint, to sign a constitution that made him a figurehead no more. The Bayonet Constitution stated that Native Hawaiians could not hold office in their own country. The Hawaiians thought this was unacceptable, but king Kalakaua had to renew the constitution and give the U.S. permission at Pearl Harbor.
Hawaii's economy dramatically decreased after the U.
