A First Person Account of the Holocaust

It seems as though everything is changing. My life has been flipped upside down. My parents were happy and now they are always worried. I'm only 13 and I feel as though I need to grow up. Things are getting really scary around here and a lot different. My parents even have moved me and my brother's room to the attic. They said it was so that we had move privacy. Every day they wake us up with breakfast and make sure that the curtains are closed and that we had a good night but today was different. It wasn't my parents waking me up. It was three older men in uniforms and from what I have heard they are called "Nazis ". They took my parents, brother, and I with them in the back of a van. I brother who is 8 kept asking my parents where we were going and all they said was a surprise and that when we get there we are to stay together. They told us that there were problems in our country and that we were being taken away from our home. We made a plan that when we got there that I would stick with my mom and my brother would stick with my dad. We were to never let go of our parents hands no matter what happened. Mom and dad said that this would be the safest way.
We finally got to our stop and it was nothing like we expected it was worse. We had been transferred to a train a couple hours before. It was filled with people. We were stacked up in a very small space and I just sat there as calm as I could and listened. There were babies cry and people cry for help but I tried to block them out. There were two gentlemen talking beside me and they were talking about what was going on. I listen intently and what I got out of it was that since we were of a Jewish faith we were getting sent away. That we were being blamed for the war and that we weren't wanted anymore. I am young but from here on I knew that I needed to definitely mature as fast as possible. When we got off the train as a family we tried to stick to the the plan but it didn't work.
