These threats make her heart tremble and make it easier to leave Dublin. Once Eveline is at the docks, she really starts to think about her decision. The sea represents the new life that she was about to embark on. Moving to Buenos Aires would mean a lot of changes. Changes that are probably too much for Eveline to handle such as being in a new country, married, treated with respect, and not treated like dirt the way her mother was.
