This quote is a transaction that explains that the writer is suppose to write with interest so that the reader will read more. The reader will enjoy reading the book and will be enthused for the writer of his field. This is the personal transaction that's good for writing. "But the secret of good writing is to strip every sentence to its cleanest components" (Pg.7). When you have simplicity in your writing its easier to understand the book. When the book is to the point and easy to understand more people will want to read it. This helps the writer make his writing better and blunt. "Fighting clutter is like fighting weeds- the writer is always slightly behind"" (Pg.13) Clutter is something that ruins a person's writing. Clutter can affect your writing because it is in the words you use to write and the ways to cut out clutter would be by reducing long clauses to shorter phrases, eliminate run-ons, use active verbs, and replace vague nouns with specific ones. What we take out of our writing can be just as important as what we put in. Revise and edit your writing and look for the clutter and cut it out.
             "First, then, learn to hammer in the nails and if what you build is sturdy and serviceable, take satisfaction in its plain strength"" (Pg.20) The quote is saying to learn to write a strong sturdy sentences. You should hammer the nails of the sentences so that it makes sense to the reader. To embellish style to the plain words so that readers will recognize you as someone special. When the writer embellishes writing they will make it interesting. "Who am i writing for? Its a fundamental question and it has a fundamental answer: you are writing for yourself"" (Pg.26). When you're in the process of writing a paper, it's easy to forget that you are actually writing to someone. You always write to an audience, sometimes your audience is a very generalized group of readers, sometimes you know the individuals who compose the audience, and sometimes you write for yourself.
