On October 14th 2014, we were introduced with another activity related to the hotel industry. Ms Rita was the guest speaker of the day and she had prepared a very thorough presentation with information regarding what goes on behind the eyes of a normal guest in the hotel. We were introduced with the many different departments of a hotel such as the front office. The front office has a few sub departments like concierge, security, reservations, cashier, bell service and registration. Ms. Rita also told us more information on what goes on behind the scenes of a hotel that really intrigued the class, as we did not know of the many things the hoteliers had to do and are in charge of. .
The activity and knowledge introduced on that day was the importance of hospitality and it's services. Hospitality plays one of the major roles in the travel and cuisine industry, as they are the ones who provide tourist's accommodation for their travel stay. The hospitality industry has many different types to accommodate various tourists with different travel intentions. For example, budget hotels for the backpackers, city situated hotels for the businessmen, resorts for the tourists to relax. .
Out of the many important knowledge shared by Ms. Rita, one of the knowledge that stood out to me was to never look down on the importance of hoteliers. In the modern world of today, working in a hotel is often looked down by society, making hoteliers underappreciated. However, Ms. Rita had shared with us the knowledge of the upcoming and ever-growing hospitality industry. She also told us on how important hoteliers are with whatever duty they are in charge of, may it be a bellboy or the hotel manager. As a student and future employee, it makes me realize the importance and how we should appreciate the hoteliers more. .
As there are many departments and sub departments that run in the hospitality industry, there lay a wide range of job opportunities to choose from.
