He lives with his mother and father, two stepbrothers, a step-sister and his biological brother. They live in a big house in a suburban area. His parents are very career oriented and they work long hours. His mother is a physiotherapist and she believes that kids should stay busy. Therefore Steve is enrolled to different extracurricular activities such as swimming, horseback riding, rugby and extra reading classes. She shows interest by asking how his day was, and then not listen to what he has to say. She expects that her kids should be tired and ready for bed by the time she gets home at night. His father works long hours and regularly away from home. Over weekends he would entertain the kids by taking them to a toy shop and buying computer games, that way they would stay busy without them having to entertain them. The family has two stay-in domestic workers and an au pair. The domestic workers are responsible for cleaning, preparing dinners and getting the kids ready for bed. The au pair is responsible for picking up kids from school, doing homework with the youngest two, and taking the kids to their extracurricular activities. Steve has no sense of responsibility, because everything is done for him. .
Like his father, Steve was diagnosed with ADHD, and takes Ritalin every morning. He likes to share stories and make conversation, but feels that no one is listening to him (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)). His step siblings are much older than him and his younger brother is spoiled and demands all the attention. He gets criticised by his older brothers and seldom gets in trouble because of stories told by his younger brother. Steve is very creative when it comes to things which he is interested in, like mechanics and building/inventing things. Steve's home language is Afrikaans and his language of learning is English. He attends a semi-private school where the classes are average 30 learners.
