Education - The Right of Every Person

In recent years, labor union in general has proven that they are a strong political force to be reckoned with. This maybe not be true for some countries, but this is clearly a fact in most countries, countries such as Nigeria. In Nigeria, labor union has been a strong and active political force even before it got its independent. But even as active and strong as the Nigerian labor union is, it has always experience difficult times. The unions have encountered a variety of difficulties but none have been more stubborn and difficult as a corrupt government. Theres a proverb in Africa that says When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers." And this is the case of the Nigerian labor union and the corrupt Nigeria government. The government is obviously a strong political power, but so is the Nigeria labor union. But when they both get into a disagreement, the nation and its people suffer. The disagreement between Nigerian labor unions and the corrupt Nigerian government has had no positive effects and has resulted in bad economy and low productivity, poor living condition (poverty) and lastly a bad reputation for the country. Now without saying, all the labor unions are fighting for is for the good and benefit of the country, whereas, what the governments are fighting for is for their own personal good and benefit.
Nigeria is very rich country, a country that is sitting on crude oil reserves estimated at 35 billion barrels (enough to fuel the entire world for more than a year), not to mention 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The most populated African country, and clearly one of the wealthiest. In theory, Nigerias 170 million-strong population should be prospering in a country that in recent years has launched four satellites into space and now has a burgeoning space programme. But with all this wealth, its sad to know that Nigeria is the 36 poorest country in Africa. 70 per cent of Nigerians live below the poverty line of 1.
