Throughout my adult life my goals changed from year to year due to personal problems and just life getting in the way. When I graduated High School I went straight to college after for about a year and a half then I dropped out when my father passed away. At this time in my life I had no real goals I was young, living at home and had no responsibilities other than paying my car insurance. My life had no real direction and I had no idea where I was headed. After I left college my main goal was to find a job that would pay for my car insurance because my mom would not pay for me especially if I was not attending school. So, for the next few years I worked at different types of jobs trying to find what I am good at doing for example electrical work, replacement windows, furniture installations, and security work but none of these things suited me. I liked working with my hands but was never really satisfied with those types of jobs. Then I realized I needed to get back into school because I needed the knowledge to open more doors for myself. But life got in the way and I ended up getting married at 25 it seemed like the right thing to do at the time, who knew.
I ended up getting divorced two years later. This was two years o
f my life exhausted but you live and learn. I finally got the courage up to go back to school nothing was going to stop me. I decided to continue my major in college which was “Business Administration”. I started to take classes and said to myself this is not the career path for me to take. I researched different fields and came up with two Accounting and Computers. Since I already had to take accounting I told myself if I do well in accounting I will stay with it. If I do badly I will take Computers as my major. Then after taking accounting I and II I decided to change my major to Computer Technology even though I did well in the class and received an A and B+. I found accounting really boring and the thought of having a job sitting there and looking at numbers on a piece of paper all day seemed unimaginable. I spent about two years going to school at night.
I needed to learn as much as possible so I can excel at my job and that I did. I used my time there wisely. In the four and a half years I worked for the Dept. of Education I became A+ Certified as a Computer Technician and completed two semesters of the CCNA certification training for networking. I learned as much as I could during these years with the DOE. Unfortunately I was laid off due to the shrinking economy in New York. It was actually one of Mayor Bloomberg’s budget cuts.
Now that I am a University of Phoenix student the goals I set for myself will start off with adjusting to classes and the new learning environment especially with the learning teams. Another goal I
