Cesare Beccaria was born on March 15th, 1738. He was born into a aristocratic family in Milan Italy. Beccaria went to a Jesuit school and received most of his education from this institute. During his early twenties Beaccaria was befriended by two brothers by the names of Alessandro and Pietro Verri, The two brothers had formed a brotherhood, which was known as the Academy of the fist. Through the academy Beccaria was acquainted with British and French philosophers such as Hume, Helvetius, Diderot, and Hobbes. The academy also encouraged Beccaria to study most of the works by the enlightened authors of France and England, Beccaria did not speak to much about most matters that where happening in Italy and as well as the other surrounding countries but he was again encourage by the academy to write essays and papers that were causing problems throughout the lands.

However Beccarias most famous essay was “ On crimes and Punishments”, the help of his friends at the academy wrote this and while he was writing this book he had no real knowledge of
