Niccolo Machiavelli- “The Morals Of the Prince”
“Everyone sees what you appear to be, (but) few really know what you are….” In life there are many different roles one must play to go on with there day to day lives. As a prince, or governmental power (according to Machiavelli) role playing is a necessity. There are two sides of the table he/she must sit on. Which one side may be good and the other may be bad. But both very important, qualities to acquire. For instance, in order for you to have the trust and devotion of your people, you must be truthful, sincere and some form of religious beliefs. As a leader you have to often appear you have something greater than the rest (qualities). Even though we are all human but you must have a certain image you must uphold, and make very little mistakes. As Machiavelli said, “….to anyone who sees or hears him, he should appear all c
ompassion, all honor, all humanity, all integrity, and all religion.” A lot for one to obtain just to rule a country or government. But very necessary. A ruler should posses all the qualities the average joe does not. At times he should seem more superior than his people, with great intelligence and integrity. We seldom see much of those qualities , maybe because (as Machiavelli said), “Men are so simple of mind, and so much dominated by their immediate needs…” Even though a ruler should concentrate on being on the good side of the table. They often sometimes have to travel to the bad. Though he should not depart from the good if he can hold to it, but he should be ready to enter on evil if he has to.
