The Great Gatsby

Once upon a time, in the woods of Millcreek Canyon, a girl of sixteen years received her first kiss. She was extremely excited and happy about the whole experience, and that night related the exciting news to her mother and sister. Her story told of how much she adored the boy and of how cute she thought he was. The next couple of weeks were heaven on earth, he called her every night and talked for hours about nothing at all. She felt so special and loved. The amazement of having any boy, especially this one in particular, pay attention to her was overwhelming. As the months of summer passed, it came time for school to start. Unfortunately, these two love birds attended different schools. After a couple of weeks of school he stopped calling as frequently. She told herself it was because he was swamped with homework, but in reality he did not care for her anymore. Finally, she wrote him a letter telling him that they were either officially boyfriend and girlfriend or just friends. She was fed up with the in-between feelings and wanted to know where they stood. He answered her letter with a phone call, making her worst fears a reality. He had no desire to continue the relationship and he had no wish to be her friend either. Well the months past and she never heard from him or saw him. One day she received a phone call from one of her other guy friends who attended the same school as her lost love. He informed her that her former boyfriend had been spreading horrendous rumors about her being a slut around his school. She was heartbroken and promised herself that she would never kiss another guy until she found the man she was going to marry. She also vowed never to again enter into that kind of relationship. This experience helped her to realize how special and fragile relationships are with others. In the novel, The Great Gatsby , relationships play an important role; Tom and Daisy's relationship for instance, changes throughout the course of the novel and is marked with confusion and misunderstanding and leads many to wonder what they have in common, and why they stay together.
